Vietnam to accelerate training of 50000 semiconductor engineers – TUOI TRE NEWS

Vietnam will speed up the training of 50,000 engineers and experts to serve all stages of value chains in the semiconductor sector, Vietnamese Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said at a meeting held in Hanoi on Tuesday.
The prime minister had previously tasked the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the National Innovation Center (NIC) with formulating a scheme for the development of human resources in the semiconductor industry until 2030, with a vision extending to 2045.
This scheme entails a plan to train 50,000 semiconductor engineers, including 15,000 designers.
During the feedback gathering meeting for the scheme, Minister Dung expressed the country’s anticipation that its engineers would possess the capability to actively engage in the design of advanced semiconductor chips, covering front-end to back-end processes, as well as packaging and testing phases, by the year 2030.
By 2045, Vietnam is expected to become an important link in value chains of the semiconductor industry with engineers and experts capable of meeting the industry’s demand.
NIC director Vu Quoc Huy said since September last year, the center and the Ministry of Planning and Investment had surveyed leading enterprises, research institutes, and universities in Vietnam to assess their semiconductor training and research capability.
NIC has consulted leading experts who are working in the U.S., Taiwan, France, the Netherlands, Japan, South Korea, and Belgium on forecasts about the semiconductor worker demand and Vietnam’s training ability until 2030.
The center has also assessed the demand of international enterprises and training facilities which may invest in, cooperate with, and provide scholarships to Vietnam.
In the upcoming periods, NIC will coordinate with Vietnamese experts in Silicon Valley as well as firms and universities specializing in semiconductors, such as U.S. firm Cadence, Vietnamese tech giant FPT, and Arizona State University, to organize short-term training courses for Vietnamese lecturers and students.
At the meeting, representatives of management agencies, enterprises, universities, research institutes, as well as Vietnamese experts working at home or abroad hailed the scheme to develop human resources for the semiconductor industry and the roles of the Ministry of Planning and Investment and NIC in the development of a semiconductor ecosystem and manpower for Vietnam.
