TSMC đẩy nhanh việc xây dựng nhà máy sản xuất chip 2 nanomet đầu tiên tại Cao Hùng, Đài Loan
December 2nd, 2024 — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the world’s leading contract chipmaker, today announced the commencement of equipment installation for its groundbreaking 2-nanometer fabrication facility in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. This milestone marks a significant acceleration of the project, with installation beginning six months ahead of schedule.
Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai, who attended the equipment installation ceremony, emphasized the importance of this development for the city and Taiwan’s overall technological advancement. He stated that TSMC’s advanced 2-nanometer technology will be instrumental in driving the development of artificial intelligence (AI) applications and fostering industrial transformation within Kaohsiung. The mayor also revealed that TSMC plans to build four additional fabs in the city, further solidifying Kaohsiung’s position as a global semiconductor hub.
TSMC confirmed that its 2-nanometer technology development is progressing ahead of schedule, with device performance and yield exceeding expectations. The company anticipates commencing volume production of 2-nanometer chips next year. This advanced technology is expected to be primarily used in high-performance computing applications and smartphones. Early adopters are anticipated to include major technology companies such as Apple Inc. and AMD.
The establishment of this advanced facility, alongside TSMC’s existing 3-nanometer and 5-nanometer fabs in southern Taiwan, will create one of the world’s most valuable semiconductor clusters. This significant investment underscores TSMC’s commitment to meeting the surging global demand for advanced chips, particularly in the rapidly expanding AI sector. The company’s CEO, C.C. Wei, recently highlighted the unexpectedly high demand for 2-nanometer capacity, exceeding initial projections.
This accelerated timeline demonstrates TSMC’s proactive approach to addressing the growing global need for advanced semiconductor technology and reinforces Taiwan’s leading role in the global semiconductor industry.
