Strong A17 Pro, M3 Sales Mean Apple Will Help TSMC Generate $3.1 Billion In Revenue From 3nm Orders Alone In 2023, According To New Estimations – Wccftech
Apple has a total of four 3nm chips that it announced this year, starting with the A17 Pro that is exclusively found in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, followed by the recent M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max powering the newest edition of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. According to the latest report, all four SoCs are expected to contribute immensely to TSMC’s overall revenue, with 3nm orders alone pulling in $3.1 billion in revenue for 2023.
Information published on DigiTimes that semiconductor industry insiders relaid states that TSMC is enjoying a healthy revenue dose due to strong iPhone and Mac sales caused by an increase in A17 Pro and M3 orders. Even though the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models were announced recently, a new Space Black color, a unique assortment of ports, the 120Hz mini-LED display, and other upgrades should compel buyers to upgrade.
At the current momentum, TSMC’s 3nm chip revenue alone is said to reach NT$100 billion, or $3.1 billion USD, for 2023, with NT$30 billion ($0.93 billion) being added to the total in the third quarter. It is expected that the A17 Pro will bring in the majority of this revenue, as various reports have mentioned that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max continue to remain in strong demand.
As for the M3, Apple was previously reported to have cut orders for this 3nm SoC, with analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicting that Mac and iPad sales will drop in the future. One major reason why Apple has been the only TSMC client to pursue 3nm chip orders is because of the high wafer price, with the report mentioning that each cutting-edge unit costs close to $20,000.
This kind of expenditure can only be absorbed by a massive technology giant such as Apple, though Qualcomm and MediaTek appear to be comfortable with the previous-generation N4P process.
