ST mở Trung tâm thiết kế và công nghiệp hóa điện tại Pisa

STMicroelectronics has opened a power design and industrialisation centre in Pisa in Italy.

The centre in Pisa Montacchiello includes a test laboratory and was created in collaboration with the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Pisa. It aims to have about 40 people working on the design and industrialization of power and mixed analog and digital designs, together with researchers and graduate students of the University of Pisa.

Most of the designers report to the ACD division (Analog Custom Devices of the APMS Product Group) which works on the design and development of products for the consumer electronics market.

The Pisa group of the ACD division is focused on the development of products in the areas of Wireless charging and Power management with the aim of identifying and implementing innovative solutions to improve the efficiency of battery-powered products (such as smartphones). The center is equipped with a laboratory for testing activities and instruments to perform the validation and industrialization of the products developed in the Centre.

The CEO of STMicroelectronics Italy, Lucio Colombo, and the Rector of the University of Pisa, Riccardo Zucchi, cut the ribbon of the centre, the thirteenth ST site in Italy and the first in Tuscany, today.

In addition to inaugurating and visiting the Centre, the Rector Riccardo Zucchi and the CEO Lucio Colombo signed a framework agreement around training as well as research.

“The Pisa Centre was born 20 months ago with the aim of growing quickly by acquiring talent in the area, thanks to the collaboration with the University of Pisa, but also by attracting talents eager to return to Tuscany in light of the job opportunities offered by a global leader,” said Lucio Colombo, CEO of STMicroelectronics Italy . “A model that ST has applied over the years at Italian university locations close to its research and production centres.”

“The framework agreement signed today represents the formalization of a collaboration that has multiple meanings for the University of Pisa: in addition to the scientific and cultural value, we are deeply honored that STMicroelectronics has chosen Pisa as the Tuscan headquarters for its activities.” Riccardo Zucchi, Rector of the University of Pisa, added: “STMicroelectronics is a world-class company in the semiconductor sector and its presence in our territory helps create significant professional opportunities for our graduates, enhancing their skills”.

“The goal was to reach about 40 collaborators in two years and to date we are satisfied with the progress made. The Centre relies on electronic engineers with mixed skills: analog/digital/software and testing and with different seniority, together with researchers and graduate students,” said Patrizia Milazzo, ACD Director, STMicroelectronics . “We believe that the rapid development of the center is due to the great collaboration with the University and the determination of ST colleagues, who strongly wanted to create a center of excellence in Tuscany”.
