Scottsdale-based chip manufacturer plans to invest $2 billion in Czech Republic facility – KJZZ
The Scottsdale-based computer chip manufacturer Onsemi is planning a $2 billion investment in its production facility in the Czech Republic.
The money will be invested in the company’s existing facility in an eastern Czech town. The facility produces 10 million chips a day already, and the country’s government says the multi-year investment could at least double the output.
The move is expected to create 1,300 new jobs, for a total of 3,000 positions at the facility.
Onsemi says the move will boost the semiconductor supply chain in Europe and to global customers.
It added the site will produce semiconductors that are used in electric vehicles and AI data centers. The plan is pending regulatory and incentive approvals from the Czech government.
