KCC Showcase Cutting-Edge Materials at PCIM Europe 2024 – Korea IT Times
Global applied materials and chemical company KCC participated in the world’s largest power semiconductor trade show, 'PCIM Europe 2024 (Power Conversion Intelligent Motion)', held in Germany.
At the exhibition, which took place in Nuremberg from June 11 to 13, KCC showcased advanced organic and inorganic materials for electric vehicle (EV) drive components and power modules, including silicone materials from global silicon company Momentive. This presented a comprehensive solution for power semiconductor materials.
One of the key inorganic materials highlighted by KCC was the AMB (Active Metal Brazing) ceramic substrate, known for its mechanical strength and heat resistance. The AMB substrate enhances adhesion by applying active metals between copper circuits and ceramics, making it a highly efficient product in the expanding high-performance EV industry.
KCC's AMB ceramic substrates, recognized for their excellent properties and reliability, are gaining demand in the global power module market. The company expects significant interest from leading global semiconductor companies such as Infineon and On Semiconductor, as well as automotive parts manufacturers like Valeo, Visteon, and Bosch. Additionally, KCC showcased other inorganic materials such as DCB (Direct Copper Bonding) ceramic substrates and various ceramic materials for automotive parts.
In the organic materials category, KCC featured EMC (Epoxy Molding Compound), a material that protects semiconductor circuits from heat, moisture, and external impacts. Particularly noteworthy was the EMC for EV power modules, emphasized for its high heat resistance and thermal conductivity.
With the growing demand for EMC due to the increasing use of advanced semiconductor technology in EVs and renewable energy products, KCC presented various EMC products, including those for memory semiconductors, system IC semiconductors, and power semiconductors. They also introduced EMC for automotive applications, such as motor magnet fixing and motor core adhesive.
This year's exhibition also highlighted the synergy between KCC and its subsidiary Momentive. As a leading company in high-performance silicon solutions, Momentive showcased silicone gels, adhesive and coating products, and Thermal Interface Materials (TIM) for power modules alongside KCC’s core inorganic and organic materials, receiving favorable feedback locally.
Following this exhibition, Momentive will also participate in The Battery Show Europe in Stuttgart, Germany, from June 18 to 20, where it will present its silicone products along with KCC’s power semiconductor and power module material solutions.
KCC has been participating annually in the 'PCIM Europe' exhibition since 2010, establishing itself as a world-leading advanced organic and inorganic materials company. This year, the collaboration with Momentive to showcase total solutions including silicon technology is expected to further enhance KCC's global recognition and credibility.
"We are accelerating the development of diverse organic, inorganic, and silicon material products capable of addressing rapidly emerging industries such as electric vehicles and renewable energy," said an official from KCC. "Through this exhibition, we aim to solidify our position as a global advanced materials company and become the only company in the world to offer an integrated total solution of organic, inorganic, and silicon materials."
