Cyient Ltd, a prominent technology firm, has recently announced the establishment of a new wholly-owned subsidiary dedicated to semiconductor design services. This move underscores Cyient’s strategic initiative to strengthen its foothold in the semiconductor market by focusing on analogue mixed-signal chips under a fabless model.
The newly formed subsidiary aims to specialize in the design and sale of customised Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs). By integrating Cyient’s existing semiconductor technology business, the subsidiary is poised to enhance its capabilities in delivering turnkey ASIC design solutions. This strategic expansion is expected to cater more effectively to evolving market demands and technological advancements in the semiconductor industry.
Krishna Bodanapu, Chairman and Managing Director of Cyient, expressed optimism about the subsidiary’s role in advancing the company’s capabilities in specialised chip manufacturing. With projections indicating substantial growth in the global semiconductor market, expected to reach a trillion dollars by 2030, Cyient aims to capitalize on this growth trajectory and bolster its influence in the industry.
Cyient boasts a robust portfolio of engineering solutions geared towards a digital and autonomous future. With a repertoire of over 600 IPs across various technology nodes, the company serves a diverse clientele that includes industry giants like Airbus, Deutsche Aircraft, and SkyDive.
The establishment of Cyient’s new subsidiary comes amid burgeoning activities within India’s semiconductor sector. Recent developments, such as L&T’s acquisition of SiliConch Systems and Accenture’s investment in Excelmax Technologies, underscore the sector’s dynamism and growth potential. Additionally, companies like Zoho are seeking entry into semiconductor manufacturing, highlighting a broader trend towards bolstering India’s semiconductor capabilities.
