Tokyo Electron, Ebara and others invest in Kumamoto
TOKYO/KUMAMOTO, Japan — A cluster of semiconductor investment is taking shape on the southwestern Japanese island of Kyushu, as TSMC’s construction of a chip plant spurs new moves by some of Japan’s biggest suppliers in the industry.
Massive buildings have risen up in Kikuyo, a town in Kumamoto prefecture where Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., the world’s biggest contract chipmaker, is constructing a chip foundry.
