Apple’s M3 Ultra Could Launch In Mid 2024, But Latest Rumor Does Not Mention The Mac Pro, Only The Mac Studio – Wccftech

The M3 Ultra will be Apple’s first 3nm chipset that is categorized for desktops and is expected to be found in the company’s most powerful and expensive machines. According to the latest rumor, the new Apple Silicon will launch in the middle of 2024, but apparently, it might only be found in the updated Mac Studio, not the Mac Pro.
A fresh update from TrendForce discusses TSMC’s position as it begins to secure new 3nm chip orders from various clients, including Apple. MediaTek, Qualcomm, and others will reportedly adopt the Taiwanese semiconductor firm’s new ‘N3E’ process, which has improved yields and a lower price-per-wafer compared to the ‘N3B’ variant, which is likely why Apple was the sole customer for the latter. TrendForce states that the N3E node will be used to mass produce the A18 Pro, as well as the M3 Ultra, and talks about its rumored launch.
Where an earlier report stated that the M3 Ultra is not expected to be unveiled until the end of 2024, the latest rumor mentions that the launch could happen in the middle of this year. What is even more interesting is that TrendForce only mentioned Mac Studio as the recipient of Apple’s most powerful chipset and not the Mac Pro, hinting that the company might be phasing out the bigger workstation. When the M2 Ultra was announced last year for the Mac Studio and Mac Pro, a direct comparison of the two machines found a gaping $3,000 price difference for the exact same configuration.
This makes the Mac Studio a more compelling purchase, allowing consumers to obtain a more compact yet powerful machine while saving tons of money. With the Intel-powered Mac Pro, it was possible to purchase ‘off the shelf’ memory kits and GPUs and add them to the tower, but the Apple Silicon version removes all of this expandability, leaving consumers with barely a few options to upgrade. As far as the M3 Ultra launch goes, the latest report could be nothing but speculation, as Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said that the SoC had not gone into broader testing.
Since there have hardly been a few months for the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max, Apple will probably take its sweet time preparing the M3 Ultra, as this time gap should allow for a higher adoption of current-generation products. Regardless, if a launch is around the corner, we will update our readers on the latest, so stay tuned.
