Chinese EDA players push for mixed-signal chip design simulation breakthrough – DIGITIMES
China-based EDA leader Empyrean Technology and Shanghai UniVista Industrial Software Group have jointly announced their collaboration to build a digital-analog mixed design and simulation EDA solution.
Starting operation in 2021, UniVista’s founding members come from international EDA leaders like Synopsys and Cadence. Over the past two years, the company has experienced rapid growth, and its employee size has exceeded 800 people, with the R&D team accounting for 88% of the total.
Based on Univista’s digital verification and simulation solution, UniVista Simulator (UVS), as well as Empyrean’s analog simulation tool, Empyrean ALPS, the collaboration aims to create a comprehensive mixed-signal design simulation solution to help Chinese chip design industry address the challenges of mixed-signal simulation.
The collaboration will see Empyrean ALPS and UniVista Simulator to form a unified solution, enabling enterprises to simulate and optimize mixed-signal chip designs. With this mixed-signal design simulation solution, chip performance can be verified under various real-world conditions, factoring the effects of noise, interference, temperature variations etc.
The jointly developed solution integrates the technical expertise and advantages of both companies in the fields of digital IC simulation and analog transistor-level simulation. It is expected to help customers solve key issues in mixed-signal chip design and covers various applications in analog microcontroller domains such as industrial control, automotive electronics, power management, and other markets.
Zhou Zhenya, Vice General Manager of R&D at Empyrean, noted that the company has noticed an increasing demand for mixed-signal design simulation. Through the collaboration with UniVista on mixed simulation solutions, Zhou believes it can better meet the simulation and verification needs of more customers in digital-analog mixed design.
